<p>See a profile on a unique grain buying company and merchandising firm called Mobil Grain. At the time of our visit in 2011, Mobil Grain operated trans-loading facilities on two short line railways in Saskatchewan. By using the rail car as storage the identity of where the grain came from is preserved. The trans-loading facilities allows the firm to load a rail car in less than 10 minutes so it is easy to fill shipments for buyers wanting identity preserved 50 to 100 rail car allotments.</p>

As a result he got to work and developed a bin monitoring system that can be accessed online so farmers can keep a close eye on the temperature of grain stored in bins. At the time of our visit in 2012 the cost for a monitoring system for a half a dozen grain bins was about $6,000.00.</p>

The unit gives the farmer plenty of warning to shut the flow of grain down to avoid plugging the auger or spilling any grain. It can be easily installed on any type of grain auger. At the time of our visit it was selling for $699. Brownlee has also built the Hopper Dropper, which allows farmers to open hopper bottom bin chutes wide open without spilling any grain. The unit attaches to the bottom of the bin with 80 pound magnets and sells for around $249.00.</p>
