If you use fire wood, the log splitter built by Jerry Inkster makes splitting logs for fire wood extremely easy. Inkster built his hydraulically powered splitter to handle big logs and do the job in one pass. The blade is made out of grader blade. He has found the shear blade shatters the end of the wood so well that it dries green wood twice a fast allowing him to burn it within 2 or 3 weeks of splitting it. He cuts up about 20 cords of wood each year to heat his house and shop plus sell some locally.
